Superior Performance
The JPS moves the engines forward in the hull, lowering the
boat’s center of gravity and placing its center of buoyancy
where it logically belongs – in the center of the boat
– giving a significantly more stable and solid ride
in rough seas (unlike outboards with several hundred, and
in some cases more than a thousand pounds of engines hanging
on the back of the boat).
Duo-prop
counter-rotating propellers put 60-70% more propeller surface
in the water, virtually eliminating cavitation and vastly
improving handling and maneuverability in both forward and
reverse by eliminating torque steer.
Counter-rotating props also help deliver up to 15% more thrust,
20% better acceleration, and up to 15% better fuel economy.
Unlike the downward angle of a traditional inboard shaft,
the sterndrive’s prop shaft is parallel to the water
so that it smoothly and efficiently converts engine power
into straight-line forward thrust.
Excellent Fishability
When you have hooked the catch of a lifetime, the last thing
you need to worry about is trying to fish “around the
engines.” Like the cockpits of larger sportfishing boats,
the JPS configuration allows for the ultimate in a clean fish-fighting
platform – free of obstructions that stand between you
and the fish.
The
unobstructed transom also affords a substantial fishbox
within easy reach.
With the heavier Carolina hull of an Albemarle, the improved
weight distribution of the JPS delivers a stable trolling
ride and clean wake, excellent for bait presentation.
The lower center of gravity created by the JPS, combined
with the counter-rotating props, also translates into unmatched
reverse steering power, control and maneuverability when backing
down on fast moving fish.
In comparison to a traditional inboard, the JPS delivers
a significantly increased ability to fish and navigate shallow
water.
A Long, Low Maintenance Life
Due in large part to its power being derived from a highly
dependable V8 engine, the sterndrive offers superior performance
and less maintenance than an outboard engine. The big-block
engine generates horsepower at a much lower RPM than do outboards,
decreasing wear and tear and considerably increasing its life
expectancy.
On our 242CC, 268XF and 280XF, the JPS is available with
diesel engines, a power system long known for longevity and
efficiency.
Getting
to the engines for routine maintenance and fluid checks is
made simple through large hatches with gas struts. Each opens
effortlessly to allow unimpeded access all around the insulation
lined engine compartment.
Once an issue, the concern about outdrive corrosion is a
thing of the past. Through the use of specially developed
alloys, multi-step painting processes, ceramic coatings, and
advanced freshwater flushing systems, these outdrives are
incredibly well built and carry impressive corrosion warranties
from the manufacturers.
